Police: Local man suspected of drug crimes arrested in Montana
The Aberdeen Police Department said that a 59-year-old man wanted in connection to multiple drug-related crimes in Southeast Idaho was arrested in Montana and is currently in police custody.
Police across the region had been searching for Charles D. Helmick since May 25 after police executed a search warrant on a residence in Aberdeen. Authorities obtained the search warrant after they began to suspect that drug trafficking and sales were taking place at the home.
During the search of the residence, police found controlled substances, United States currency, paraphernalia and a firearm, according to a news release.
Authorities also searched Helmick’s vehicle, which was parked at his place of employment in Pocatello. They found approximately 2.5 pounds of methamphetamine and other illegal substances in the vehicle.
However, Helmick was not present at either location during the searches. Aberdeen Police Chief Chuck Carroll told the Journal that he believed Helmick was tipped off about the searches and fled the area.
Officials with the Aberdeen Police Department said more information about Helmick’s arrest in Montana will be released soon.
