Larcery suspect who fled into Pecos River still missing
A 46-year-old man who fled police officers by jumping in the Pecos River last week is still missing, a state police spokesman said Wednesday.
State police reported that Brian Encinias, who they determined had an active warrant for his arrest, ran from officers just after 4:30 p.m. May 9 and jumped in the river, which quickly took him downstream.
Encinias’ brother told the Albuquerque Journal an officer later told him Encinias’ body had been seen upside-down in the water a short distance downstream.
A state police dive team and aircraft, as well as fire department and EMS personnel, searched the river but did not find Encinias, state police said.
Officers had been investigating a larceny in Pecos at the time and said Encinias matched a clothing description of the thief, according to state police.
