Police say pub employee saves officer from knife attack
HYANNIS, Mass. (AP) — Police say a pub employee saved an officer from danger by disarming a knife-wielding suspect.
Officer James Melia responded to a Hyannis pub early Thursday on a report of an intoxicated customer. Staff members say a man was drunkenly fighting with other customers.
While Melia was trying to take the man into custody, pub employee Dave Duncan saw another man approach the officer from behind with a knife. Police say Duncan disarmed the man and tossed the knife aside.
The man with the knife and the man who was reportedly fighting were both taken into custody.
Barnstable Police Lt. Mark Cabral commended Duncan in a statement.
