Prep roundup 4-4-18: Rams outscore Rigby 33-6 in doubleheader sweep

HIGHLAND 11, RIGBY 3

HIGHLAND 22, RIGBY 3 (4)

Highland tallied 29 hits in its two-game sweep Wednesday at Rigby, beating the Trojans 11-3 and 22-3 in four innings.

In game one, the Rams scored four runs in the fifth inning and seven runs in the sixth frame to upend the Trojans, who led 3-0 after three innings. In game two, Highland tallied four or more runs in three of four innings.

Makayia Anderson had eight hits and four RBIs in the two games, while teammate Veronica Bosquez had five hits and five RBIs, including a home run.

“We have been scoring runs,” Highland coach Tisha Coverdell said. “Today, we were making routine plays. Scoring runs early allowed them to relax.”

Highland (7-10, 2-0 5A District 5-6) plays Wednesday at Century.

IDAHO FALLS 12, BLACKFOOT 4

Blackfoot struggled defensively in a 12-4 loss Wednesday at Idaho Falls.

The Broncos allowed at least three runs in three of six innings.

Blackfoot hosts the Tigers on Thursday.

Preston was swept in a home doubleheader Wednesday against Skyline, losing 7-3 and 16-2 in five innings.

The Indians allowed 35 hits in two games combined.

Preston hosts Green Canyon (Utah) next Wednesday.

The Pocatello boys and girls suffered 4-2 home losses Wednesday against Skyline.

Indians singles players Josh Halversen, Matthew Sturman and Mckenzie Chatterton picked up two-set wins. Pocatello doubles pair Olivia Johnson and Tayja Williams defeated Grizzlies pair Brinley Chambers and Kim Landon 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

“We had to fight a little bit with the wind,” Pocatello coach Aldo Cordova said. “Everybody played in control. They played their best tennis possible.”

The Pocatello boys (0-4-2, 0-2 4A District 5-6) and girls (2-2-2, 0-1-1) host Blackfoot on Thursday.

GOLF

1A-3A DISTRICT 5 MEET

Aberdeen’s Bo Knittel and Soda Springs’ Tyler Erickson took first in the boys and girls divisions, respectively, in a 1A-3A District 5 golf meet Wednesday at Blackfoot Golf Course.

Knittel shot a 75 to lead the boys, while Erickson tallied an 82 to pace the girls.

The top boys team was Grace, which compiled a 340. Snake River and Aberdeen rounded out the top three. There were no team results in the girls division because some golfers did not finish on time.
