Operation Wear Red Campaign begins
The third annual Operation Wear Red Campaign to raise awareness of aplastic anemia will start Feb. 27 and last through March 5.
Schools, businesses and community groups in Sherman, New Milford, Danbury and New Fairfield have planned various activities for the weeklong campaign including exercise events, food and service specials, concerts and wear red days. Participants can also change their social media profiles using downloadable graphics or request a t-shirt from the campaign’s website.
The event is organized by Julia’s Wings Foundation, a nonprofit founded in 2013 to honor the memory of Julia Malsin who died of aplastic anemia in 2012 when she was 13 years old. Julia’s Wings Foundation has assisted over 60 families, partnered with 39 hospitals and has raised over $120,000 for aplastic anemia research.
The campaign is held in conjunction with the National Organization for Rare Diseases Rare Disease Day on Feb. 28.
