Stevens takes third in 100 back but can still look on to Worlds

July 1, 2017 GMT

Hannah Stevens followed her record-setting win in the 50-meter backstroke Thursday night with a third-place finish in the championship final of the 100 back on Friday in the USA Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis.

With a time of 59.79 seconds, the MU rising senior went up against 2016 Olympian Kathleen Baker, who went on to win and set the U.S. Open record in the event.

While Friday’s finish doesn’t qualify Stevens for the 2017 FINA World Championships, her win on Thursday night earned her a tentative spot on the U.S. team for Worlds.

On Saturday, Stevens’ teammate Michael Chadwick, who recently completed his Missouri career, will be competing in the men’s 50 freestyle.

Live coverage of finals on Saturday can be seen on Universal HD, which also can be accessed by subscribers via NBCSports.com or the NBC Sports app. NBC also will air two-hour taped segments at noon both Saturday and Sunday.
