Dads, daughters spend date night together
While one daddy and his daughter were at their first Daddy/Daughter Dance at the North Platte Rec Center on Friday night, another daddy was at his 14th — with his fourth daughter.
Clint Walker is the new pastor at First Baptist Church, and he and his daughter Karis were enjoying the festivities Friday.
“We just moved to town this week from South Dakota,” Walker said. “We stopped at the Rec Center and saw this and decided to come.”
Karis was excited about her date.
“I got my hair done and makeup,” Karis said. “We ate here and I had chicken strips and macaroni and cheese.”
The annual event hosted by the North Platte Rec Center is a popular attraction. The staff decorates the gym and food is provided. The girls are treated to a spa where they get their hair done, makeup and nails polished to get them ready for their special date.
Jarid Childears is a veteran at the event and was sharing this year’s party with Kylee, who is 8 years old.
“I’m on my fourth daughter date,” Childears said. “It’s been a lot of fun. The girls really enjoy it. You can tell they really appreciate the one-on-one time. One year, Greg Wilke and I got to do the chicken dance.”
Childears’ oldest daughter is now a senior in high school and Kylee is his youngest. Before coming to the dance, Kylee and Jarid went out to eat.
“We ate at the Canteen,” Kylee said.
Childears said he has three more years to participate, which will take him to 17 years in succession at the event.
For Eric Wyman, it was his second Daddy/Daughter Dance, this time with his daughter Kylee, 8.
“This is not my first one,” Wyman said. “I’ve done it once before this, but it was 10 years ago. It’s a lot of fun.”
Kylee said she was having a good time.
“I’m excited,” Kylee said. “The best thing about it is probably the dancing.”
