Bannock Development’s Ennis attends CES Government, Silicon Slopes Tech Summit

March 9, 2018 GMT

January was a busy month for Bannock Development. Mike Ennis, vice president of business development, attended CES Government in Las Vegas the week of Jan. 8 in collaboration with Buchanan & Edwards out of Arlington, Virginia. B & E is tasked with staffing the FBI’s expansion efforts in Pocatello in addition to other contracted locations.

CES Government is the only Enterprise Technology Forum held annually in partnership with CES, the world’s most prestigious trade show. Ennis had unparalleled access to world leaders and technology industry pioneers in addition to 250 (invitation only) industry leaders and government officials. The next step is scheduling a visit to explore the benefits of establishing a local presence with interested firms.

In addition to CES Government, Ennis attended Silicon Slopes Tech Summit in Salt Lake City the week of Jan. 15. Last year was the inaugural Silicon Slopes Tech Summit with 5,000 in attendance; 2018 saw the attendance rise to 12,000.

Ennis said, “Silicon Slopes is home to entrepreneurs and leaders who have earned global recognition through hard work, a focus on building exceptional companies and a willingness to serve others. This ‘summit’ will be around for years to come … and we’ll be there.”

The Salt Lake City Metro area is bursting at the seams and experiencing land & housing crises. Ennis visited with companies that are looking to expand to areas that are cost effective and can meet their labor demands, whether it’s an entire move or just an expansion. Ennis is selling Bannock County as the “made-to-order” logical stop for these companies.

Ennis said, “The key to attending these shows is finding the right companies to complement our community and existing companies … and immediate follow-up to get the company decision-makers to schedule a visit. We want to bring in companies that complement our existing companies that have been good corporate citizens and supporters of the community. BDC also pursues companies that will bring good paying jobs to the community and provide diversity and value.”

The CES Government and Silicon Slopes Tech Summit offer venues for attracting high-tech jobs to Bannock County.
