EDITORIAL: Cool the impeachment chatter
What is it with Texas members of Congress and their premature penchant to impeach presidents?
In 2013 the offender was U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman of East Texas, who threatened to introduce articles of impeachment for President Obama over gun control measures he proposed.
Now it’s Rep. Al Green of Houston, who wants President Trump ousted for allegedly obstructing justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey over an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
In both cases, the congressmen should have consulted the Constitution before firing off a press release.
There could be something to the allegations leveled against President Trump - or not. If there is, the issue should be addressed after current investigations have been completed.
Members of Congress should have enough real business to occupy their time.
If they don’t, they should be replaced by people who do.
