New director to oversee troubled county jail system
CLEVELAND (AP) — A troubled county jail system in Ohio will have a new director beginning next month.
Cleveland.com reports that Lorain County jail administrator Ronda Gibson will take over as director of Cuyahoga (ky-uh-OH’-guh) County’s jails beginning June 3.
Gibson will oversee the jail system which includes the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center in downtown Cleveland. Eight inmates died at the jail in 2018, and another inmate died this month.
The jail continues to receive scrutiny because of its high inmate death rate and a U.S. Marshal’s Service report released last November calling conditions inside the downtown jail unsafe and inhumane.
