College Signing: Henderson signs with West Georgia to play softball
Calhoun High senior Cassie Henderson (front row, center) signed a softball scholarship with the University of West Georgia (Carrollton, Ga.) on Thursday.
Henderson said of the signing: “It feels great. I’ve been working hard for it, and just to finally accomplish a goal that I have dreamed of as a little kid is beyond my wildest dreams. Just the campus, coaches, the team, everybody there (at West Georgia) have been so welcoming. It’s a great school, and it offers my major. The facilities are great, and all that just made the decision for me to go there. Coach Al Thomas is a great coach also. I’m very, very ready for this next chapter. My dad has been my biggest influence on my life along with my mom when it comes to sports. They are both very knowledgeable, and they have pushed me to get better and better and fight through obstacles and everything I’ve face. To be able to play at the next level at West Georgia just means everything to me.”
Also attending the signing were: Sister Carlie Henderson, father Chip Henderson, mother Cheryl Henderson, grandmother Patsy Shaw, Calhoun High assistant softball coach Kayla Ralston (back row, from left), Calhoun High athletic director Hal Lamb, Calhoun High head softball coach Diane Smith, hitting coach Marty Baker, Calhoun City Schools superintendent Michele Taylor and grandfather Billy Shaw.
