Manchester VA to host town hall to discuss health care
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s Veterans Affairs medical center is holding a town hall meeting to hear the concerns from military veterans regarding their health care and benefits.
The Jan. 29 event in Manchester comes in the wake of efforts to improve services at New Hampshire’s only veterans hospital. Top officials were removed in 2017 after the Boston Globe reported whistleblower complaints about substandard treatment and unsafe conditions.
A task force studying problems at the hospital encouraged more collaboration with the Veterans Affairs medical center in Vermont and expanded partnerships with community hospitals. It also all recommended the creation of a “Community Care Center” in downtown Manchester for veterans struggling with mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness.
