Maine says nearly century-old Canada bridge must be replaced
Officials from Maine are holding a public meeting about the need to replace a nearly century-old bridge that links the far northern part of the state with New Brunswick.
The Maine Department of Transportation is holding the meeting on Thursday about the Madawaska-Edmundston International Bridge. The department said the meeting will provide a chance for the public to ask questions about the project and comment on it to the design and environmental teams.
The department described the bridge as “a critical connection between the communities of Madawaska, Maine and Edmundston, New Brunswick,” but said it needs to be replaced due to its age. The state is working with the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure on facets of the project including design, funding and outreach.
The Thursday meeting is scheduled to take place at the Madawaska Middle/High School cafeteria.
