Holiday Inn Express construction projected to take 15 months
BULLHEAD CITY — Preliminary work has begun for the long-planned Holiday Inn Express at 1290 Silver Creek Road.
Lamont Companies Inc., of Aberdeen, South Dakota, has taken over the project.
“Right now we are looking at about a 15-month time to have it completed,” said Sabrina Metz, digital media and marketing specialist for Lamont.
The four-story hotel will have 89 rooms. A company representative said the plan also is to construct an attached 25,717-square-foot convention center and a steakhouse with full bar.
A pool within the project no longer will have water park features.
The city has a 50-year lease agreement with Lamont for use of the nine-acre site. The lease has an option for an additional 50 years. Lamont doesn’t have to pay rent on the property.
Lamont also has an option to build a second lodging location there in the future — if desired, said City Attorney Garnet Emery.
The original plan by Sunde Enterprises from several years ago was for a three-story hotel with an office building, a significantly smaller convention center and enclosed water park.
The city still has the option to use the pool though subsequent improvements to the city’s municipal pool have occurred since the original agreement was made between the city and Sunde.
For example, winter activities are scheduled at the city pool because it’s now heated, Emery pointed out.
A wastewater facility used to operate at the location.
There are other Holiday Inn Express hotels in nearby communities of Kingman and Lake Havasu City. City officials have said such mid-priced accommodations for those on business and short-term stays would fill a lodging niche Bullhead City sorely needs.
