Multimedia Buys Television Programming Assets

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Multimedia Inc. says it has purchased the made-for-television movie production and first-run syndicated television programming assets of Orbis Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Carolco Pictures Inc.

Included is the game show ″The $100,000 Pyramid.″ Orbis will continue to act as station clearance agent for the show during the 1991-92 broadcast season.

The value of the deal, announced Friday, was not disclosed.

Under the terms of the purchase, a Carolco affiliate will obtain rights to a minimum of nine of Multimedia’s next made-for-television movies and miniseries for foreign distribution.

Multimedia Entertainment produces and syndicates such television programming as the Phil Donahue and Sally Jessy Raphael Shows. It is a division of Greenville-based Multimedia Inc., which publishes 12 daily and 49 non-daily newspapers, owns five television and eight radio stations and a video production company, and operates more than 100 cable franchises in four states.
