GERING, Neb. (AP) — Astronomy fans are gathering in western Nebraska for a program about the night sky at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center near Gering.

The center is part of the Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area, which sits several miles south of Gering, alongside Nebraska Highway 71.

The program is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday under the guidance of Western Community College astronomy instructor Tom Robinson. He says attendees will meet at the nature center for an introductory video and then move to the east end of the park to observe celestial objects through telescopes.

The event is open free to the public, but a Nebraska park entry permit is required for vehicles.
