Man pleaded guilty to 2012 crimes

June 19, 2018

A man mistakenly released from jail more than five years ago pleaded guilty today to shooting a man three times and robbing a pizza delivery driver in 2012.   Arnel O. Davis, 29, was arrested and charged with the crimes in November 2012 but was released from the Allen County Jail in January 2013 due to a clerical error, according to court documents.   He pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and robbery. A plea agreement calls for him to be sentenced to 10 years in prison on both counts, and the sentences will be served back-to-back for a total of 10 years.   Prosecutors have agreed to drop charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and carrying a handgun without a license. The plea agreement also calls for charges of carrying a handgun without a license and unlawful possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer from a separate case to be dismissed.    A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3.   For more on this story, see Wednesday’s print edition of The Journal Gazette or return to www.journalgazette.net after 1 a.m. Wednesday.   mleblanc@jg.net
