Three attackers beat man, damage rental car at Cleveland wedding reception

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Three attackers punched and kicked a Wickliffe man and damaged his rental car at a wedding reception in Cleveland, according to police reports.

The 33-year-old man suffered bruises on his head and body during the Saturday incident outside the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Avenue at East 64th Street, police reports say.

The attackers also caused about $3,000 in damage to a rental car.

The man and his 31-year-old girlfriend provided descriptions of the attackers, but no arrests have been made, police reports say.

The assault happened about 9 p.m. at a wedding reception for one of the girlfriend’s relatives, police reports say.

Three men confronted the Wickliffe man during the reception and tried to pick a fight with him. The Wickliffe man and his girlfriend decided to leave to avoid any trouble.

The three men followed the couple to the parking lot, where they attacked the Wickliffe man and knocked him to the ground. They repeatedly punched and kicked him, and several other party-goers joined in the beating, police reports say.

The Wickliffe man got up, and he and his girlfriend got into the rental car and locked the doors. The three men jumped on the car and started shaking it, police reports say.

The attackers somehow opened the rental car’s door and pulled out the Wickliffe man. They attacked him again, but he managed to escape and get back into the rental car. He and his girlfriend then drove away.

The couple went to the Cleveland police department’s Fifth District station on Tuesday afternoon to report the assault.

The man declined medical treatment, but said he would seek it on his own, police reports say.

The assault remains under investigation.
