4 cars involved in Norwalk fire

June 12, 2018

NORWALK — Three cars were covered in flames and a fourth was scorched on its side Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., firefighters received a call for two vehicles on fire on North Water Street. But when fire units got the scene, there were three cars on fire, said Deputy Fire Chief Ed Prescott.

A man was working on his car and it caught on fire, Prescott said. He said it wasn’t clear what the man was working on when the fire broke out.

“He tried to put it out, tried to smother it,” Prescott said. “But it didn’t work. The fire got away from him.”

The fire engulfed his car and the two cars parked on either side of his car caught on fire as well, Prescott said. A fourth car nearby was scorched on one side. There were no injuries.

The fire marshal was still at the scene as of 4:15 p.m. to investigate and document the fire to determine what happened.
