Fleeing suspect on stolen ATV doesn’t get far
NEEDLES — Police are asking the public’s help in an investigation of a 35-year-old Needles man who attempted to flee from police, Jan. 7, first on a stolen all-terrain vehicle then on foot.
The incident began about 8:30 a.m. when a San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff from Needles’ Colorado River Station observed the suspect riding the four-wheeled vehicle near Needles Highway and North K Street. Accelerating south on K Street the suspect prompted pursuit by a second deputy, who had been conducting a vehicle check at Front and South K streets. He attempted to elude the second deputy by driving west along the railroad tracks where the vehicle became stuck.
After a short foot pursuit the suspect was apprehended. The quad he was driving had been reported stolen in Victorville. The suspect was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and booked into the CRS jail where he was being held on $50,000 bail pending a court hearing.
