Kurland to Lead Ayer Cable Access

August 13, 2018

AYER -- The Board of Directors of Ayer Public Access Corporation (APAC) announced the appointment of Scott Kurland as executive director of the non-profit local-access television organization for the town.

Kurland had been serving as programming and digital content coordinator at WCTV, the local public access corporation for Wilmington. He brings an extensive media production, management, and technical background to the new position. In addition to his position at WCTV, he served in a variety of production, editing, and videography roles at WCAT Wakefield and Chelmsford Telemedia. Kurland has also done freelance film criticism.

APAC Board Chairman Bob Colman said the selection of Kurland to lead APAC “represents a capstone in the complete overhaul of the corporation that began two years ago, and includes an extensive reorganization of the board, creation of new organizational roles and responsibilities, and recruitment of personnel to staff those new responsibilities. Scott Kurland has the industry background and skills to lead the organization to the levels of quality and performance we expect from our revitalized corporation.”

On behalf of the entire board, Colman also thanked APAC Public Access Manager David Melpignano for serving in an interim chief executive role as the board searched for a permanent executive director. Melpignano will now return to his responsibilities of increasing APAC membership, expanding programming, and encouraging more diverse local television content.

A graduate of Fitchburg State University, Kurland, interned at “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart and did on-air broadcasting for WXPL radio while in school.

He has extensive, hands-on experience with a broad range of computer and broadcast technologies.

Kurland will manage all aspects of APAC content, programming, production, staffing, budgeting, fund-raising, videography, video editing, and technology.

APAC is a non-profit corporation that produces local television content for Ayer cable subscribers. Residents of Ayer who become associate members of APAC can produce their own programs for local cable channels. APAC broadcasts over Comcast channels, eight, nine, and ninety nine. APAC programs are also available at www.ayerpac.org .
