Wisconsin Singers perform in Beaver Dam Jan. 27

January 20, 2018

Captivating vocals and choreography, big band sound and Badgers spirit will be on display next Saturday at Beaver Dam High School.

The Wisconsin Singers, UW-Madison’s premier entertainment group, is taking the stage for its 50th anniversary season show.

“Can’t Stop Dancin’!” is a 90-minute revue of top hits of American pop music from the past five decades, highlighting more than 40 songs. It’s entertainment for the whole family, including music from Pentatonix to Taylor Swift, KISS to Elton John, and Aretha Franklin to Duke Ellington. Broadway buffs will love the covers of hits from “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Rent” and “Hairspray.” The Wisconsin Singers have a Fifth Quarter, too, where Badgers fans can sing along to “Varsity,” dance to “Tequila” and jam to “Jump Around.” The Wisconsin Singers Band will rock the house with a foot-tapping swing medley and a tribute to the Beatles.

The Beaver Dam Lions Club is once again hosting the Wisconsin Singers, featuring an opening performance by Beaver Dam SWAZZ, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Beaver Dam High School auditorium, 500 Gould St.

SWAZZ’s theme this year is “On The Road,” with songs that spotlight different locations around the country. “Route 66” starts it off, followed by a California medley, which features a song about California from each decade from the 1960s to the 2010s. “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Georgia On My Mind,” and a New York mash-up of “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel and “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys round out SWAZZ’s portion of the night’s performance.

Tickets for the Wisconsin Singers/SWAZZ show are available for $16 each at Rechek’s Food Pride or Piggly Wiggly in Beaver Dam.
