‘The Compassionate Kitchen’ brings a traditional Tibetan Buddhist perspective to the practice of mindful eating

December 13, 2018

Venerable Thubten Chodron, abbess of Sravasti Abbey in Newport, has written a book that brings a traditional Tibetan Buddhist perspective to the practice of mindful eating.

“The Compassionate Kitchen” discusses how food – from offering it to receiving it as well as preparing it and cleaning up the kitchen afterward – can nourish the spirit alongside the fare’s physical nourishment.

Chodron writes for a modern American audience and has co-authored several books with the Dalai Lama. She’s been a nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition since 1977.

Her latest book was published by Shambhala Publications and went on sale Dec. 11. Paperback copies sell for $14.95 each.
