Former trooper accused of unauthorized background checks

July 9, 2019

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say a former trooper has been indicted on charges he used department technology to perform unauthorized background checks.

News outlets report a Norfolk grand jury handed down 16 criminal charges against 26-year-old Christopher Lolos last week. Lolos worked as a trooper since 2015 and was a Bureau of Criminal Investigations agent before being placed on administrative leave without pay amid court proceedings.

He’s accused of using his position as a state police officer to carry out background checks when it wasn’t work related. He’s charged with eight counts of use of a computer to gather identifying information and eight counts of computer invasion of privacy.

Lolos is out of jail on bond pending a trial. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney who can comment.
