Police: Man Tried To Sexually Assault Teen Girl
A Mountain Top man assaulted a teenage girl and attempted to sexually assault her at a Rice Twp. home on Sunday, according to police.
William A. Beers, 44, faces felony counts of attempted sexual assault and unlawful restraint, and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.
According to an affidavit filed by Rice Twp. police:
Officers on Sunday night interviewed a female juvenile, who told police Beers assaulted her Sunday afternoon. Beers grabbed her by the wrist, dragged her into a bedroom and locked the door, she said.
He then took her to a bed and repeatedly attempted to pull off her leggings, despite her resistance and pleas to leave her alone, the girl said.
When other people entered the house, Beers ran out of the bedroom, she said.
The girl showed police a screenshot of text messages she said Beers sent her.
Officers observed a bruise on the girl’s neck, which she said Beers inflicted, according to the affidavit.
Police interviewed Beers, who said he was never alone with the girl and the alleged assault did not happen. When officers showed Beers screenshots of the text messages, he said he never sent the messages.
Police will attempt to obtain a search warrant for Beers’ phone, the affidavit states.
Beers was arraigned Monday and sent to Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2.
