Grossen Bart Brewery is set to host the fifth annual Chili Chili Bang Bang cook-off on Saturday to raise money and awareness for the Inn Between and HOPE (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement), two locally based nonprofits that help vulnerable segments of the community find safe shelter.

The chili cook-off will run from 2 to 4:30 p.m., at which point Denny Driscoll, who will be playing with Bad Hollie and the Rolled Up Newspaper, will close the musical set and await the announcement of the winners.

Prizes for the chili masters who make the podium include concert tickets to the Caribou Room in Nederland, free meals at Beau Jo’s Colorado Style Pizza and Georgia Boys BBQ.

There is a $20 entrance fee for those looking to compete and a $10 tasting fee for the public. All proceeds will go to the Inn Between and HOPE.

With around 80 attendees last year, Laura Teta, the Inn Between’s associate director, said both organizations received around $2,000, but they expect the event to keep growing.

“We’ve seen it grow significantly each year, so we’re hoping this year we see even bigger numbers,” she said. “But, it’s not really about how much money we make. It’s about getting people together to address a significant problem in our community.”
