NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez bruised his right wrist Friday night when he was hit by a pitch in the second inning against Baltimore.

Nunez was plunked by Miguel Gonzalez and then checked out by Yankees trainers for several minutes before heading to first base. He went to his position for the third inning and attempted one warmup throw that barely reached first baseman Lyle Overbay. Nunez shook his head and signaled toward the New York bench as he walked off the field.

X-rays were negative. Jayson Nix took over at shortstop.

Nunez missed two starts against Detroit after being hit in the right biceps by a pitch on April 5. He has been filling in at shortstop for Derek Jeter, still rehabilitating a broken ankle.
