Scotty’s Doghouse, a popular sports bar near Gonzaga University, is closing
Scotty’s Doghouse, a popular University District sports bar, is closing.
The last day is slated for Dec. 10, according to a recent Facebook post announcing the closure.
Scotty’s Doghouse opened just over two years ago near the campus of Gonzaga University. It quickly became a popular spot for students, alumni and other fans to watch Zags’ games.
That’s part of its history. The building had housed the longtime Bulldog Tavern, a GU-neighborhood watering hole for 65 years. It, too, was a popular spot for students, alumni and other GU fans. Later, it housed Chairs Public House.
Scott Wilburn, owner of Scotty’s Doghouse, attended GU and has fond memories of frequenting the Bulldog. After finding “success in the technology industry, he wanted to give back to a community that gave him comfort, hence creating a neighborhood joint known as Scotty’s Doghouse,” according to the establishment’s recent Facebook post.
“The Spokane business has been working toward a lease renewal and purchase options with its landlord, but due to unfavorable terms has been unable to do so,” the post said.
“The entire Scotty’s Doghouse staff wants to thank everyone for your patronage, your kindness and our endless memories,” it continued.
Scotty’s Doghouse might relocate. In the same post, general manager Joey LaRocque is quoted as saying “This is not the end for Scotty’s” and “We are looking for new locations to continue what we started.”
Wilburn also owns The Blind Buck and The Globe Bar and Kitchen, adjacent businesses at North Division Street and West Main Avenue.
