Undated (AP) _ The Braves activated Lonnie Smith, who has been on the disabled list since May 20 with a right ankle sprain and outfielder Terry Blocker was sent to Class AA Greenville. Smith was hit on the left ankle by a pitch from San Francisco’s Criag Lefferts in the ninth inning Tuesday night. ... Dale Murphy has not homered since May 3. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs recalled catcher Joe Girardi from Iowa and optioned catcher Rick Wrona to the Class AAA club. Girardi, who batted .216 in 17 games with the Cubs in April, was batting .245 at Iowa in the American Association with two homers and 11 RBIs in 32 games. ... Andre Dawson, who was activated from the disabled list on Monday, was back in the Cubs’ starting lineup Tuesday night against the Mets.
