OSU football: Tre Flowers runs solid 40 time while Mason Rudolph’s arm questioned

Of five the Oklahoma State players who participated in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, safety Tre Flowers ran the fastest 40-yard dash.

His official 4.45 time on Monday was the best of the Cowboys and fifth among defensive backs at the event.

“That’s a good time for Tre Flowers,” said NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock on Monday. “The safeties are running better than the corners.”

Chris Lacy, who received an unexpected invitation to the NFL Combine, had the next best 40 time, running a 4.51, which was 17th overall in the receiver group.

Fellow receiver James Washington, who measured at 5-foot-11 and ran a 4.54 in the 40, was the strongest of the Cowboys on the bench press, posting 14 repetitions, which was good for 18th (tied with Texas Tech wide receiver Keke Coutee).

Marcell Ateman posted the top broad jump for OSU, reaching 121 inches, which tied him with Cedric Wilson (Boise State), Antonio Callaway (Florida) and Steven Mitchell (USC).

Quarterback Mason Rudolph only participated in the 40-yard dash, running a time of 4.90 and the vertical jump, where he leapt 26 inches. That was next to last in the drill, just one spot above South Florida quarterback Quinton Flowers.

In the on-field throwing portion of the combine, Rudolph got mixed reviews from television analysts on his performance Saturday.

“Even though he is a big, strong guy, he doesn’t have the arm talent some of the other guys we’ve talked about,” said Mayock. “But he’s been very accurate. He and James Washington did a great job on the deep ball. He had confidence in where his wideout was going to be.”

Overall, the Cowboys performed well as a group at the NFL Combine.
