Shooting threat posted on Snapchat closes Ashland school, police say

ASHLAND, Ohio -- An Ashland school will be closed Friday following a shooting threat posted on social media, police said.

A report was made to an Ashland City School District officer Thursday by a student who uncovered a post that threaten to shoot up Ashland High School and Ashland County Community Academy on Snapchat, Ashland police said on their Facebook page.

Investigators, who posted a photo of the threat, were unable to find who created the message on the popular social media website that allows images, messages and videos to disappear after 24 hours.

Ashland City School District officials will keep the school open Friday, police said. The threat has promoted Ashland County Community Academy to close.

Officers will patrol the district’s six schools for any possible dangers.

Anyone with information regarding the threat should call Ashland police at (419) 289-3639.
