Nev.-Las Vegas 83, Pacific 61
LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Stacey Augmon scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds Monday night to lead 11th-ranked Nevada-Las Vegas to an 83-61 Big West Conference victory over Pacific.
David Butler added 13 points and eight rebounds and guards Clint Rossum and Greg Anthony had nine points each for the Runnin’ Rebels.
Chris Fox led Pacific with 14 points. Dell Demps added nine points for the Tigers.
The win was the eighth straight for the Rebels, who are 5-0 in Big West play and 10-2 overall. The Tigers are 0-3 in conference play and 4-7 overall. They have lost 26 consecutive conference games over the last three seasons.
Facific led just once in the game, at 2-1 in the opening minute. UNLV was on top 13-6 after four minutes of play on a pair of 3-point shots by Rossum and baskets by Butler, Augmon and George Ackles.
Pacific’s Don Lyttle made four straight field goals midway through the first half, but 3-pointers by Rossum and Anderson Hunt gave the Rebels a 31-18 lead with 6 1/2 minutes left before halftime.
The Rebels increased their lead to 44-25 at halftime, outscoring the Tigers 13-4 in the final 5:43 of the half.
UNLV forged a 27-point lead, its biggest of the game, early in the second half on baskets by Augmon, Anthony, Ackles and Moses Scurry. Pacific pulled within 16 points late in the game before the Rebels scored the final six points.
