Man killed in two-vehicle crash near Belle Fourche

BELLE FOURCHE | A 25-year-old man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash about 6 miles east of Belle Fourche.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup was westbound on South Dakota Highway 34 at 7 a.m., when the driver tried to pass a pickup hauling a flatbed trailer and struck an eastbound 2007 Volkswagon Jetta.

The driver of the Jetta was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

A 24-year-old male was driving the pickup; he suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Spearfish hospital, according to authorities. He was wearing a seat belt.

Neither driver’s name has been released.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Spearfish Ambulance also responded.
