Indiana’s high court to hear appeal in triple-murder case
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s high court is taking up the appeal of a man sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing deaths of three people in northwestern Indiana.
Twenty-six-year-old Derrick Cardosi was convicted of three murder counts and other charges in February and sentenced in the killings of 20-year-old Justin L. Babbs, 23-year-old Richard Thomas and 39-year-old Kimberly Spears.
Cardosi appealed his sentence and convictions in April, alleging there wasn’t sufficient evidence to convict him in the August 2016 slayings in Sumava Resorts, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) south of Gary.
The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports the Indiana Supreme Court will hear arguments in Cardosi’s appeal Dec. 13.
His appeal raises numerous issues, including arguing that a Newton County judge failed to properly advise jurors about their responsibilities during his eight-day trial.
