MADAWASKA, Maine (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage says the acquisition of an important employer in northern Maine is complete.

LePage is applauding the acquisition of Twin Rivers Paper by Blue Wolf Capital Partners and Atlas Holdings LLC. The acquisition became complete on Monday.

Twin Rivers produces specialty papers and lumber products. Its mill in Madawaska, Maine, employs 620 people and its facility in Edmundston, New Brunswick, has 550 workers. The company has been an important part of the northern Maine economy for decades.

In a statement Monday, LePage and state Economic Development Commissioner George Gervais (zher-VAY) applaud the decision to invest in Maine while taking on challenges of an increasingly competitive market.
