Sunday brush fires possibly arson-caused
A series of brush fires that broke out Sunday morning in Draper, Lehi and Herriman are being investigated as the work of an arsonist, authorities said.
At about 8 a.m., a brush fire was reported in the Rose Canyon area of Herriman. Fire crews quickly arrived on the scene and got it under control, according to Capt. Dan Brown of the Unified Fire Authority.
At around 9 a.m., two small brush fires were reported in Draper, about 100 feet apart. Crews jumped on both quickly, but as a precaution, about five homes in the area were voluntarily evacuated. The fires were put out before they reached any houses.
Then at 10:15 a.m., two fires were reported in Lehi, along Minutemen Drive. These were also contained.
Brown said officials believe the fires may have been set by the same person, or persons.
The UFA is asking anyone who may have information pertaining to the fires to contact them at (801) 840-4000.
