Authorities ID teen fatally shot in deer stand on Iron Range
Authorities on Sunday identified the 16-year-old hunter was found over the weekend fatally shot on the Iron Range in his deer stand.
Corwin M. Johnson, of Aurora, Minn., was in the stand near the 5800 block of Stepetz Road 53 in White Township, about 5 miles southwest of his hometown, when someone from the teens hunting party found him dead late Saturday afternoon, according to the St. Louis County Sheriffs Office.
Johnsons death was reported to authorities as an accidental shooting, a statement from the Sheriffs Office read.
While Johnsons death remains under investigation, A follow-up statement Sunday from the Sheriffs Office said that foul play is not suspected.
Also in St. Louis County, a 64-year-old woman was hurt Saturday morning after falling 15 feet from a deer stand in Duluth. Beth Holst slipped and fell, calling for help for a possible broken leg. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital with noncritical injuries, the Sheriffs Office said.
