Mother, daughter seriously hurt after inner tube hits rock
WESTMINISTER, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a mother and her young daughter have suffered serious injuries after their inner tube struck a rock in a South Carolina park.
Oconee County Emergency Services Fire Chief Charlie King said the mother and daughter went over rapids while in the tube Tuesday afternoon at Chau Ram County Park along the Chauga River.
King says the river current pushed the tube underwater and against a rock. He told media outlets it took more than an hour for two dozen rescuers to get them out of the water.
King says both the mother and daughter were taken to the hospital with what he called tramatic injuries. He did not give their names or additional details.
King says they were camping nearby.
