Congressional candidate will be at Dixon forum Monday

July 25, 2018

DIXON – The Democratic candidate for the 16th Congressional District will be at a community forum to answer questions Monday.

Sara Dady, a Rockford immigration attorney looking to unseat Channahon Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger on Nov. 6, will speak at 6:30 p.m. at the Post House Ballroom, 100 W. Second St., during the forum sponsored by Action for a Better Tomorrow Sauk Valley.

Last month, ABT members gathered signatures from more than 700 area residents calling for community forums between the two candidates and presented them to Kinzinger’s office in Ottawa along with an invitation to participate.

ABT member Sarah Bingaman said Kinzinger declined the invitation without providing a reason, but they already planned to go ahead with the forum as long as they had one of the candidates.

Community members with questions for Dady will be asked to write down their name and topic of the question such as health care, immigration, taxes, etc. Cathy Ferguson, administrator of the Lee County Health Department, will moderate.

“The hope is by structuring it this way, we will a good cross-section of issues represented,” Bingaman said. “Our greatest hope is that everybody who wants to will have the opportunity to ask a question.”

There also will be cupcakes to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the creation of Medicare and Medicaid.

The 16th District covers all of Lee, Ogle, Bureau, Boone, Grundy, Iroquois, LaSalle, Livingston, and Putnam counties, and parts of DeKalb, Ford, Stark, Will and Winnebago counties.
