Chorizo is back at Chipotle for a limited time

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- If you’ve been sitting around hoping Chipotle would bring back chorizo, well, your devotion has paid off.

About a year after dropping chorizo from the menu, the fast-casual chain began serving the spicy protein once again this week.

“Chorizo had a big following in its heyday, and a lot of our customers were disappointed when it was taken off the menu,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer at Chipotle, in a statement. “As part of our overall commitment to menu innovation and delivering the craveable food our customers love, we’re spicing things up and bringing chorizo back to our menu.”

Chipotle says the sausage blend is made from responsibly raised pork and chicken, seasoned with paprika, toasted cumin and chipotle peppers and grilled. The protein -- available in a burrito, salad, tacos or bowl -- can be ordered now for a limited time.

The brand is notorious for introducing new menu items about as often Wu Tang Clan releases a new album. But under the leadership of former Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol, Chipotle has branched out, introducing delivery and experimenting with new offerings at its test kitchen such as quesadillas, nachos, an avocado tostada, and a Mexican chocolate milkshakes.
