Dangers of smoking: Man crashed car when ember fell into lap, Green County Sheriff says
Smoking can be dangerous in more ways than one.
An Argyle man found that out Monday morning when a hot ember from his cigarette fell into his lap, causing him to lose control of his vehicle before crashing into a tree.
Elijah Armendarez, 22, was driving on Highway A in the town of Adams in Green County, when the ember came off his lit cigarette, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“He attempted to put out the ember, with his vehicle going onto the shoulder,” the report said. “The vehicle then entered the ditch and struck a tree.”
Armendarez wasn’t injured but he was ticketed for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
