Delphians recognized for lifetime achievement
Longtime Houston Assembly of Delphians member Barbara Klopfesnstein was recently honored for her leadership and service to the club.
The Delphians is an organization dedicated to intellectual enrichment, social enhancement and philanthropic endeavors. Klopfenstein was president of the club in 1985-86, has held every office and has chaired the Gala on two occasions.
The award was presented by Delphian President Sunny Carpenter at the Awards and Installation luncheon held Saturday, May 11, at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel Shamrock Room.
The annual event presents and awards Delphian Scholars, chosen on the basis of academic success, good character and financial need. The 2017 class included 12 continuing and four graduating scholars, representing a tradition of Delphian assistance, beginning with the first scholarship in 1930. Since that time, the Delphians have provided more than $1.5 million for more than 500 scholarships and other gifts to the UH and UHD communities.
Special grants were presented to 23 university departments and colleges at both the University of Houston and the U of H Downtown.
