Beloit man killed in Rock County rollover crash
A 73-year-old Beloit man was killed Sunday evening when his pickup truck left the highway and overturned in a ditch.
The crash happened at about 7:10 p.m. on Highway 81 east of South Smythe School Road, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office said.
The preliminary investigation said a pickup truck was going east on Highway 81 when the vehicle crossed the center line and went into the ditch on the westbound side, the truck hitting a culvert and going airborne, flipping end to end one time before coming to rest on the passenger side.
The driver, the only occupant in the pickup truck, was not wearing a seat belt and was trapped in the vehicle.
“Lifesaving medical interventions were performed but the driver died as a result of his injuries,” the Sheriff’s Office report said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released pending notification of family.
