Deadline to apply for Rotary Club of Aiken scholarships is April 6
Time is running out to apply for scholarships that will be awarded by the Rotary Club of Aiken later this spring.
The deadline is Saturday, April 6.
Each grant will have a value of $5,000.
Applications can be found at aikenrotary.com.
Click on the “Resources” navigation link at the top of the home page and then click on “Scholarships” on the drop-down menu.
All graduating high school seniors who live in Area 1 of the Aiken County Public School District or who attend a school in Area 1 are eligible for the scholarships.
Included in that group are homeschooled students, those who attend private or independent schools and those who complete their coursework online.
According to the Rotary Club’s website, applicants will be evaluated based on their extracurricular activities, the importance they attach to furthering their education, examples of their dedication to Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto and challenges they have overcome, their need financially for a scholarship and their own efforts to find ways to pay for furthering their education also will be considered.
For more information, call or text Betty Ryberg, who is the chairperson of the Rotary Club’s Scholarship Committee, at 803-270-6403.
In addition, emails can be sent to email@example.com.
“Academic achievement is not as important as a student who has shown responsibility to the community and who has demonstrated an understanding of the importance of Rotary values,” Ryberg told the Aiken Standard last year.
However, she added, applicants do need to have grades that are strong enough to show they have the ability to complete a two-year or four-year course of study at an institution of higher learning.
The grants are known officially as the Rotary Club of Aiken/Albrecht Charitable Trust Scholarships.
