Football: Atascocita, Summer Creek prepare for area round of playoffs
Atascocita and Summer Creek are the last two Humble ISD schools left standing in the football playoffs. Both squads have advanced to the area round after securing a bi-district round victory.
The Eagles defeated Channelview 71-55 in a Class 6A, Division I playoff game Friday night at Tuner Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter for a 29-28 win over C.E. King in a Class 6A, Division II playoff game Thursday night at Turner Stadium
Both teams will play their area playoff games at NRG Stadium on Saturday.
Summer Creek (8-3) will play Clear Lake (6-5) at noon in a Class 6A, Division II area playoff game at noon, and Atascocita (10-1) will play Alief Hastings (7-4) in a Class 6A, Division I area playoff game at 4 p.m.
Clear Lake is coming off a 28-14 win over Pearland Dawson.
The Falcons scored 21 points in the fourth quarter against Dawson to take the victory.
Clear Lake is led by quarterback Shae Suiaunoa and running back Brendon Holmes.
The Falcons are averaging 25 points per game.
The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Bryan Bush, whose dual threat ability has helped spark the Bulldogs’ offense.
Bush threw two touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns against C.E. King.
The Bears defeated Clear Springs 45-38 in their first round matchup.
Hastings is led by dual-threat quarterback Javon Williams.
Williams and the Bears’ offense is averaging 27 points per game this season.
The Eagles are led junior first-year starters in quarterback Brice Matthews and running back T.J. Thomas.
Matthews ran for two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns against Channelview last week. Thomas added three touchdowns on the ground for the Eagles in their bi-district win over Channelview.
Atascocita has a nine-game winning streak.
