Montpelier student earns spot in National spelling bee
COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) — A Montpelier student has earned his second state spelling championship, earning a spot in the 92nd National Scripps Spelling Bee competition.
Raghav Dhandi won with his correct spelling of the word “hyperbole” during the Wednesday competition in Colchester. The Burlington Free Press reports the eighth-grade student appeared composed through a 39-round final duel with second-place winner Grace Casey of Crossett Brook Middle School in Duxbury.
Dhandi is a student at Montpelier’s Main Street School and this is his last year of eligibility to compete in the competition.
Dhandi has earned a spot on the national stage May 26 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, during “Bee week,” the national Scripps competition.
