Group Spelling Bee winners head to Aiken County competition Feb. 4

Aiken County Public Schools recently held group spelling bees throughout the district to determine who will compete in the county-wide spelling bee Feb. 4.

The spelling bee will begin at 7 p.m. in the AECOM Center for the Performing Arts at 126 Newberry St. S.W.

The groups winners are as follows:

• Group 1- First Place, Joanna Brown, Schofield Middle, Grade 6; Second Place, Gina Hofstetter, Aiken Elementary, Grade 5; and Alternate, Jayden Avancena, Leavelle McCampbell Middle, Grade 7

• Group 2 - First Place, Drew Pond, Paul Knox Middle, Grade 8; Second Place, Peyton Stevens, Belvedere Elementary, Grade 5; and Alternate, Joseph Marshall, North Augusta Elementary, Grade 5

• Group 3 - First Place, Bella Burton, Jefferson Elementary, Grade 5; Second Place, Gianna Rando, Horse Creek Academy, Grade 5; and Alternate, Reina Mendez, LBC Middle, Grade 8

• Group 4 - First Place, Liahona Velez, J.D. Lever Elementary, Grade 5; Second Place, Alex Kikendall, Aiken Middle, Grade 8; and Alternate, Caden Jenkins, J.D. Lever Elementary, Grade 5

• Group 5 - First Place, Yolanda Ward, New Ellenton STEAM Middle, Grade 8; Second Place, India Perez, New Ellenton STEAM Middle; Grade 6 and Alternate, Allie Harm, Chukker Creek Elementary, Grade 5

• Group 6 - First Place, Rena Humes, Kennedy Middle, Grade 6; Second Place, Serenity Hilton, East Aiken School of the Arts, Grade 5; and Alternate, Erik Delgadillo, Millbrook Elementary, Grade 5.

The spelling bee is open to any student in the fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth grades who is 15 or younger.
