Bring home ‘Jack Reacher’ on 4K

In 2012 Tom Cruise brought the intriguing, aloof and intelligent Army detective to the big screen. Now “Jack Reacher” is available on a stunning 4K Combo pack with a Blu-ray disc and a High Dynamic Range 4K disc. The 4K disc delivers brilliant and stunning color and images that pop on the screen.

The story is an intense thriller as Reacher is brought into an investigation that involves a former military sniper who has been accused of shooting several innocent people on the streets of Pennsylvania. Reacher has dropped out of communication with the world, but when he sees on the news that someone he knew in his Army days has been accused of a horrendous shooting, he comes back to make sure the accused is punished. But what he uncovers is something shocking to himself and the man’s attorney, Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike), who has stepped up to represent the killer, or, the accused killer. Reacher uncovers a plot to frame his old acquaintance for the murders. But who would do this and why?

Those questions are the foundation of this film as Reacher himself is now framed for another murder. Someone doesn’t want to be found out, and Reacher is getting close to uncovering who is behind the mass killings.

Richard Jenkins is the District Attorney intent on putting the accused behind bars for the rest of his life, or even getting the death penalty. He just happens to be the father of the accused’s attorney, Helen. This makes for an interesting familial relationship.

Added into the mix is police detective Emerson (David Oyelowo), who is suspicious of Reacher from the start, and Robert Duvall, who plays a former Marine that comes into the story to add assistance to Reacher. Duvall’s character is definitely memorable.

The movie was nominated for several awards and inspired a sequel in 2016 titled “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.”

Cruise plays Reacher with the smooth calmness of a James Bond combined with the detachment of Napoleon Solo (“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”) and the second sense of Sherlock Holmes. He does all of this with the usual Cruise charm mixed with compassion and a sense of right and wrong. If this film had been made decades earlier, it would have been the perfect role for the smoothness of Steve McQueen.

There are bonus features on the Blu-ray disc that look at the character of Jack Reacher and the film.

“Jack Reacher” is more lifelike in 4K, with colors that enrich the story and the scenery. It is rated PG-13 for violence, language and some drug material.
