Congressman Huizenga addresses Mason County Republicans at Lincoln Day Dinner
Elected officials at the city, county state and national level gathered with Mason County Republicans Monday evening for the annual Lincoln Day Dinner — a way to highlight party priorities and raise funds for the local branch.
The evening’s main speaker is Congressman Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, who will address the crowd later this evening.
Huizenga, re-elected to the 2nd District representative seat last November, has served the area since 2011 as congressman. Before that, he served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives and worked in the office of former congressman Pete Hoekstra.
Mason County Republican Party Chair Carolyn Cater kicked off the event with jokes, icebreakers and highlights of party priorities, including providing funding for Flint as the city continues its efforts to restore clean drinking water.
She also took a moment to thank local committee members, including Lyla McClelland, the party’s event organizer, and vice chair John Beckett.
