Jeff Fortenberry will face McClure, while Adrian Smith easily holds off three Republican challengers

May 17, 2018 GMT

Democrats in Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District went with regulatory compliance specialist Jessica McClure over personal injury lawyer Dennis Crawford in Tuesday’s primary election.

McClure will face off in November’s general election against longtime Republican incumbent Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, who was unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.

The 1st District in eastern Nebraska includes Lincoln and some suburban Omaha areas.

Both Democrats ran saying that health care would be at the top of their agenda.

In Nebraska’s sprawling and largely rural 3rd District, Republican incumbent Rep. Adrian Smith easily held off three Republican challengers. Smith will face Democrat Paul Theobald, who was unopposed.
